Blood Drives

The American Red Cross urges people to donate blood now. All blood donors are needed, especially those with type O blood, as this is the universal blood type and is in high demand and needed for patients suffering traumatic injuries, anemia and cancer. Several blood drives will be happening during the next few weeks that donors can attend. Visit the Red Cross website or call 1-800-RED CROSS to arrange an appointment. Walk-ins are also welcomed!

Blood drives will be held on the following dates:

On July 7, from 1-6 p.m., at Tri County Church, Main St., Mill Hall.

On July 16, from 1-5:30 p.m., at Lamar Township Vol. Fire Company station.

On July 19, from 12:30-6 p.m., at Faith United Methodist Church, Hughes St., Bellefonte.

Donations

needed

Many local cemeteries are struggling with having enough funds to make sure that the grass gets mowed each summer. Whatever cemetery your loved ones are buried in, please consider making a donation now to help with the grass mowing expenses now that summer has arrived.

Food for thought

Would you like to become a Shoe Bank volunteer? The Lock Haven Area Shoe Bank is usually open one Saturday a month, when we have the fun of giving free new shoes to eligible kids and teens. We are looking for more volunteers, including people we can call when we are shorthanded. If you’d like to volunteer or just ask questions about it, please text or call Wendy at 570-295-3443.

Gardening Questions?

Call the Penn State Master Gardener Hotline in Clinton County at 570-858-0198 or send an email to ClintonMG@psu.edu to ask a Master Gardener your questions.

Shoes for Shore

Shoes for Shore has reopened to serve underprivileged Jersey Shore area children. For safety purposes, families are asked to wait in the hallway until staff invite them in to be served. The service is open from 10 a.m. to noon on the third Saturday of each month.

A friendly reminder

The Downtown Lock Haven’s Little Red Libraries are for reading material only. There have been well-meaning people putting in dog biscuits, knitted items and other things in the Little Red Libraries. We will remove anything other than suitable reading materials from the libraries. No stickers with QR codes and other types of signs are allowed to be put onto the Libraries and will also be removed from the Little Red Libraries. They are there for children and adults to enjoy and select reading materials.

Greyhound Meet and Greet

The Nittany Greyhounds Meet & Greet event occurs every 4th Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Petco, 40 Colonnade Way, State College. They will have greyhounds to interact with, including adoptable retired racing greyhounds, and an information table. For more information, contact Ellen at ellen@nittanygreys.org or (814) 933-6981, or visit www.nittanygreys.org.
