A Flower Basket has flowers — but so much more!

BELLEFONTE — When it comes to flowers, cards and gifts, Bellefonte’s A Flower Basket aims to be your one-stop shop.

Owner/manager Susan Munnell took over the business in 2017 and started a transformation of the shop, which is located at 633 East Howard Street.

“My husband and I bought it from Faith Miller,” Munnell explained. “We turned the front into a gift shop.”

However, as Munnell pointed out, A Flower Basket is still a “full service florist.”

“We do weddings, funerals, birthdays, everything,” Munnell said. “We deliver to a large area of Centre County.”

If you haven’t been to A Flower Basket recently, stop by. The entire front of the store has been re-done — from the ceilings and lighting to the flooring. In fact, you might not recognize it. The best part? Gifts galore. There truly is something for everyone at A Flower Basket.

“People know we’re a florist, but we’re really trying to get people to know that we have the gifts. We have baby gifts, birthday things, gifts for mothers, gifts for fathers, we have candy, as well as a full line of cards and balloons.”

No matter what you’re looking for, chances are that A Flower Basket has it. Need a gift for Mother’s Day? There’s an entire section devoted to moms. Something for Father’s Day? Ditto. Have a foodie in your house? A Flower Basket has everything from candies to gourmet salad dressings.

“We really have gifts for everyone,” Munnell said. “We really want people to know that.”

There’s also something for every price range. You can find something for as little as $2.

“We really have every price range. We have women’s totes and purses, we have stuffed animals, balloons, teas. And we carry a lot of local products, too,” Munnell said.

A Flower Basket is a Bellefonte staple. It has been in the same location for 70 years. As Munnell explained, A Flower Basket is also heavily involved in the community. In 2021, they donated to help patients at Centre Crest (now Centre Care). They have also helped Bellefonte’s own Faith Centre and Centre County’s Out of the Cold, which helps homeless in need.

Munnell serves on the boards of Faith Centre and the Bellefonte Chamber of Commerce.

“The community has been so supportive and I just try to give back to it,” Munnell said.

In a world of online shopping, it’s important to shop local. According to Munnell, ordering flowers online costs more because of service charges and fees. You can easily get something fresh and beautiful by stopping at or calling A Flower Basket. It will be made locally and delivered by a local person.

No fuss, no muss. A Flower Basket is truly one of the most unique shops in the Centre Region.

“We have so much stuff, so many unique things,” Munnell said. “We are really a one-stop shop. I like to think of us as a little hidden gem.”
