LHU welcomes public for fun weekend of events

LOCK HAVEN — Everyone’s invited to visit Lock Haven University this Friday and Saturday for holiday events, a free screening of the movie “Elf,” campus tours, and the chance to sign up for a free community library card.

Stevenson Library, off North Fairview Street, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Saturday. The library is offering library cards to community members, allowing them to check out thousands of reading options and take advantage of the library’s services.

A public tour of campus with an LHU ambassador is offered Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. on the main floor of Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center. The tour will showcase recent changes including the new University Commons area, the freshly renovated Price Auditorium, and more.

A tour of just the conference center — with free hot chocolate — is offered from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The center is available for rent for weddings, parties and meetings.

Campus tours for prospective students are offered from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Registration is required for these tours.

At 7 p.m. Friday, cheer on the LHU Bald Eagle wrestlers as they host Rutgers in their first home dual of the season, in Thomas Fieldhouse. This is a “White Out” and everyone is encouraged to wear white to support The Haven.

Also at 7 p.m. that night, a winter choral concert will be presented in Durrwachter.

Activities scheduled for Saturday include LHU men’s and women’s basketball hosting Slippery Rock, with the women’s game at 1 p.m. and the men’s game at 3 p.m., in Thomas Fieldhouse.

The movie “Elf” will be shown at 2 p.m. Saturday on the big screen in Price Auditorium.

Discounts will be available both days at the LHU Bookstore and the campus locations of Chick-fil-A and Starbucks. Stop at the bookstore first and pick up coupons for the Starbucks and Chick-fil-A specials. Located in the Parsons Union Building (PUB), the bookstore is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The bookstore will offer 10 percent off regularly priced LHU merchandise for all shoppers who mention Haven Holidays at check-out.
