Rock cliff rescue in Shintown

KEVIN RAUCH/THE EXPRESS

A man was rescued Thursday evening by local fire crews. He was stranded on top of a rock cliff at Shintown, approximately 100 feet up from Route 120. He apparently started walking toward Renovo after his truck broke down near Shintown Run on top of the mountain. The Renovo Fire Department brought its ladder truck and extended the ladder to a flat spot about 65 feet up the rock face. Fire Chief Jim Risley and Eric Knauff, chief of Citizen’s Hose Company of South Renovo, then scaled a wooded section of the precipice to help the man down to the ladder. The rescued man, whose name was not known by press time, was unharmed and even joked with a friend when he reached the safety of Route 120.
