Fatal crash on Interstate 80 near Fishing Creek Road

LOCK HAVEN – A 49-year-old Sunbury woman has died of injuries she suffered Monday morning in a one-vehicle crash in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80, according to state police.

Melanie Holub, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from her 2004 Jeep Liberty as it went off the roadway and rolled on top of guardrail, just west of Fishing Creek Road in Clinton County’s Porter Township about 11 a.m., police said.

Holub was traveling east and lost control of her vehicle after she changed from the right to left lane, police said. After hitting the guardrail, the Jeep “launched over an embankment” and landed at the bottom of the median, Trooper Christopher Soo, the lead investigator, said.

Holub was admitted to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where she died of her injuries about 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, Soo said.
