Centre County Commissioner Mike Pipe announces re-election campaign

Centre County Commissioner Mike Pipe announces he is seeking re-election for a third term. He will be seeking the Democratic nomination in the May 2019 primary for a four-year term.

“Over the past three years, Centre County Government has worked together as a team to find solutions to the challenges facing Centre County,” Mike said. “With the help of residents, other elected officials and over 550 County employees, we have enhanced services without increasing property taxes.”

Mike serves as the chair of the Board of Commissioners, Salary Board, Retirement Board, the Prison Board of Inspectors, and the Centre County Reentry Coalition. He also serves as a member of the Employee Benefits Trust, Board of Assessment, Finance Committee, Criminal Justice Advisory Board, Local Emergency Planning Council, and Records Improvement Committee.

In 2015, Gov. Tom Wolf appointed Commissioner Pipe to serve on Pennsylvania’s Workforce Development Board. He also serves as Centre County’s representative on the regional Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Board.

Several organizations invite the commissioners to appoint a member to serve on their boards or send a representative to their meetings. Mike serves as a board member of the Chamber of Business & Industry Centre County, the Vice-Chair of the Centre County Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Coordinating Committee, and as a member of the C-NET Board of Directors. Since 2012, Mike has served as a liaison to the Centre County Fire Chiefs Association, Centre County Cooperative Extension Council, Centre County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention Advisory Board, and the Centre County Children & Youth Services Advisory Board.

Mike is an active member of both the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) and the National Association of Counties (NACo). He served as a member of CCAP’s Community & Economic Development Committee from 2012-2015. He also served as the Co-Chair for CCAP’s Election Reform Committee from 2016-2018. Since 2016, Mike has served on NACo’s Justice and Public Safety Committee. In 2015, he was one of 25 leaders in county government from across the United States invited to participate in NACo’s County Leadership Institute.

Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Penn State University in 2009. He is a graduate of Leadership Centre County and serves on their Government Day committee that helps to organize and prepare for the program day that focuses on government.

Mike lives in Boalsburg with his wife Ashley, five-month-old daughter Brenna, Keira the beagle, and cats Joey and Boo.
