‘Casting of lots’ for primary ballot position

The Clinton County Election Board held a “casting of lots” to choose candidate position on the primary ballot at noon on Wednesday. About a dozen candidates and numerous others attended the event in the large courtroom at the Clinton County Courthouse. County Chief Clerk Jann Meyers picked “pills” marked with numbers from a pill bottle for each of the offices with more than one candidate. The number chosen for each candidate determines the position the names will appear on the ballot for the May 21 primary election. Members of the election board overseeing the process were Clinton County Commissioner Pete Smeltz, who is not seeking re-election, along with Clinton County President Judge Craig Miller and court administrator Don Powers. Meyers is pictured with Solicitor Larry Coploff. County Voter Registrar Maria Boileau is shown in background. Inset shows pills and pill bottle.
