LOCK HAVEN — Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman will be visiting Lock Haven University campus Saturday to discuss the possibility of legalizing recreational marijuana use in the state.

And Clinton County commissioners Robert “Pete” Smeltz and Jeff Snyder said at Monday’s work session that they will be there. Fellow commissioner Paul Conklin did not specify whether or not he would attend.

“I don’t know where we are going on legalization. We are exploring, doing our research and looking for insight,” said Smeltz. “I plan to listen and learn and talk about the issue, and at some point I expect there to be an additional discussion in Harrisburg. I don’t know if they are going to get a look at it this year. I know when Colorado legalized recreational use, they did it by county, which allowed some counties to opt out. To be honest, I am a little concerned about it (the possibility of legalization).”

Fetterman has been touring the state over the past several months, gathering input from Pennsylvanians on his ‘listening tour,’ which is taking him through each of the 67 counties as he invites residents to share their views on the proposal to legalize recreational marijuana in Pennsylvania.

The event, free and open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Sloan Fine Arts Center, 401 N. Fairview St.

He will be in Lycoming County on Wednesday, May 1, stopping at the Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Klump Academic Center, 1034 W. Third St., Williamsport, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Those who are not able to attend or who are interested in remotely leaving a comment about legalizing recreational marijuana may submit comments via an online submission form available on the Governor’s website and the Lieutenant Governor’s Official Facebook page. Submit your feedback at http://www.governor.pa.gov/recreational-marijuana-feedback/.

The board also announced that they have received a letter of resignation from Roger Hoy, as he steps away from his role with the Clinton County Planning Commission. County Chief Clerk Jann Meyers said that the opening would likely be posted online, and provided a reminder that there has been an opening for the Revolving Loan Fund Board posted online on the county’s website, http://www.clintoncountypa.com/.

“That has been out there for a while now,” Snyder added.

“We did have one person show interest in that position, and we may act on that interest Thursday,” Smeltz said.
