Eatery asks Bellefonte council to change parking meters

BELLEFONTE — The designation of a pair of parking spaces in downtown Bellefonte will be changing soon.

Meters close to the new Bonfatto’s at 401 W. High St., is surrounded by meters that have all day parking. However, store owner David Letterman recently asked borough council to change to meters to 15-minute parking for customers who are picking up take out food items.

There was some discussion about changing the meters, located on West High and North Potter Streets.

“It seems like it’s needed now,” said borough manager Ralph Stewart.

However, some council members questioned changing the designation of meters simply because a business makes a request.

“I’d like to be fair,” said council member Jon Eaton. “It’s an easy way to generate some ill will.”

After some discussion, council agreed to change the designation of the two meters. Signage will be placed soon, Stewart said.
