RENOVO — State Police Fire Marshal Nick Loffredo is investigating a fatal fire early Monday morning at 70 Stoney Run Road, Noyes Township.

The male victim, whose name has not been released pending positive identification, was found inside the remnants of a seasonal residence that burned to the ground, Loffredo said.

The cause of the fire is also under investigation, he said.

The fire was noticed just before 6 a.m. Monday when a local motorist travelling Route 144 saw flames.

As that person was reporting the fire to county communications, the camp collapsed, leaving little for responding firefighters to do other than finish knocking down the fire and making certain flames didn’t spread into the wooded area.

Just before 7 a.m. those on scene requested the coroner respond to the location.

One firefighter on scene said there was a vehicle in an out building on the property, alerting volunteers that someone might have been in the camp.

The coroner was called to the scene, as were state police.

Fire companies responding were from Renovo, South Renovo, Chapman Township, Lock Haven, Dunnstown and Cross Fork.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Pennsylvania State Police fire Marshal Unit at 570-368-5700.
