WILLIAMSPORT– The death of a Saudi Arabian woman a month after giving birth has resulted in a medical malpractice and wrongful death suit against a Centre County hospital and a doctor.
The suit brought by Nasser Bin Nafisah of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against Mount Nittany Medical Center, its physician group, health system and Dr. Kaitlyn Brunner was filed Tuesday in U.S. Middle District Court.
His wife, Arwa Alnafisah, gave birth to a daughter at 4:38 p.m. Aug. 4, 2017, following uncomplicated labor, the court complaint states.
The suit details steps taken by at the hospital, including those performed by Brunner, an obstetrics and gynecologist specialist, after increased bleeding was detected four minutes following the birth.
Alnafisah, 30, was transported by helicopter early on Aug. 5, 2017, to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville where she died Sept. 4 from what the complaint states was septic shock.
The treatment she received at Geisinger, which is not a defendant in the suit, also is detailed in the complaint.
Nafisah is seeking unspecified damages in excess of $75,000 alleging his wife’s death was caused by negligent conduct by those at Mount Nittany.
