Local highway to be renamed in honor of Vietnam Veterans
MILESBURG – A dedication and sign unveiling ceremony designating a section of Route 192 in Miles Township,Centre County, as the Central Pennsylvania Vietnam Vetrans Memorial Highway is planned for next Wednesday, July 17.
The section of highway run from the intersection of Routes 192 and 477 to the intersection with Route 144 in Centre Hall.
Beginning at 10 a.m, the highway dedication will be held at the Centre Hall Lions Club, 153 E. Church St., Centre Hall.
“Special thanks to Mike Hanna Sr. for originally sponsoring and advancing this highway renaming legislation into law,” said State Rep. Stephanie Borowicz (R-Clinton/Centre), who will host the event.
“The new highway signs will be placed to serve as lasting reminders to honor America’s military heritage, our nation’s freedom, and especially, our honored Vietnam veterans who paid such a high price in defense of our individual liberties. I am proud to see this highway being dedicated in honor of them,” Borowicz said.
David Dimmick, U.S. Air Force veteran and member of Pennsylvania Air National Guard 112th Tactical Control Squadron, in State College, will be the featured speaker.
Hanna, who served as State Representative for Clinton and Centre Counties for 26 years before retiring last year, will speak, along with Borowicz, State Rep. Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) and Sen. Jake Corman (R-Centre/Mifflin/Juniata/Huntingdon).
