CM seniors organize Haywood’s Junior Open

MILL HALL — Have a child that likes to golf? You’re in luck.

Beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, the Fourth Annual Haywood’s Junior Open will be held at the Clinton Country Club.

This year, Central Mountain High School seniors Zach Somers and Brady Williams are overseeing the event as their senior project. Both Somers and Brady are members of the Central Mountain High School golf team.

“In past years, people have really enjoyed it,” Somers said. “Since we’re both on the golf team, we thought we might as well take it over. We both really like to golf, so this is something fun for us.”

The event is open to youth golfers only. There is an under-10 category, a 10-13 category and one for ages 14-18.

The 14-18 golfers will go first, with tee times at 2 p.m. They will play 18 holes. That will be followed by the 10-13 golfters who have a 3 p.m. tee time. Those golfers will play nine holes. Finally, the Under-10 group will begin at 4 p.m. They will golf just four holes.

“It’s a really nice course,” Somers said of the Clinton Country Club.

Those participating must have their own golf clubs, Somers said.

There will be long drive and closest to the pin competition with trophies and prizes.

Entry fee is just $10 and includes a hot dog, chips, a cookie and a drink.

All proceeds benefit the Central Mountain High School golf team.
