LHU students return to class as fall semester kicks off
Welcome back to ‘The Haven’
LOCK HAVEN — On the first day of classes at Lock Haven University, students hustled from building to building, phones in hand, backpacks loaded down with the essentials.
For Laura McPherson, the first day of class held some extra stress. McPherson, 47, is a returning student. She’s aiming to get her degree in education because she wants to teach in Pennsylvania.
She didn’t have a parking permit, she said, so she found some parking off-campus and began a bit of a trek toward campus.
“I’m excited, but nervous,” McPherson said as she hustled to her first class of the day.
That seemed to be a theme for students on this day. On the first day, it doesn’t matter if you are young or old, freshman or senior — the butterflies come out.
McPherson knows she is not the normal LHU student, but that didn’t seem to faze her.
“I have to do this,” she said with a smile.
And so it begins. Students who moved into town over the weekend got their first dose of reality when the alarms went off on Monday morning. However, it’s not all work — LHU has a plethora of events scheduled for the first few weeks of classes.
