Christmas Parade, tree lighting tonight

LOCK HAVEN — Area residents are reminded that the Lock Haven Christmas Parade is tonight, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the community Christmas tree in Triangle Park.

Meanwhile, area merchants are celebrating Small Business Saturday today with Downtown Lock Haven Inc. conducting events and promoting local businesses from its office at 205 E. Main St. downtown.

The nonprofit merchants group, Downtown Lock Haven, across from The Texas restaurant will be open all day today offering coffee from Avenue 209 Coffee House and other light refreshments for shoppers to enjoy.

DLH will also offer the chance to enter drawings for prizes.

Keeping up with the Haven Holiday spirit, Christmas elves will be wandering up and down Main Street providing some holiday cheer.

Haven Holidays events will kick off at noon today at The Station Gallery at 2 E. Bald Eagle St., behind City Hall.

There will be kids activities including face painting, train rides. Kids will also get the chance to write their letters to Santa.

Haven Holidays events will run until 2 p.m. with the next big event planned for 6 p.m.: the Christmas parade.

Groups do not have to pre-register for the parade, Downtown Manager Samantha Eisenhart said.

Any groups interested in participating in the parade should meet at the intersection of Henderson and Water streets no later than 5:30 p.m.

The parade will make its way up Main Street toward Triangle Park where the Christmas tree lighting will take place. immediately after the parade.

The tree was donated by the big man himself, Santa Claus, and his elves, and stands at 25 feet tall, Kasey Campbell, Lock Haven’s Director of Community Life, said.

After the tree lighting, members of the Millbrook Playhouse Youth Ensemble will perform pieces from their upcoming musical “Elf Jr.” in Triangle Park.

The Santa Hut, which was newly renovated thanks to a partnership between DLH and the city and due to donations from YBC, will open up shop that evening, too.

Santa’s Hours

Santa will be at the hut the following hours:

— Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m.

— Saturday, Dec. 7 from 12 to 4 p.m.

— Friday, Dec. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m.

— Saturday, Dec. 14 from 12 to 4 p.m.

— Friday, Dec. 20 from 5 to 8 p.m.

— Saturday, Dec. 21 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Special hours for preschool children can be scheduled as well by calling DLH’s office at 570-748-1576.
