Ho, ho, snow: Winter weather on the way this weekend
LOCK HAVEN — The calendar will be flipping to December and the weather is going to take a turn for the worse.
Tonight, temperatures are going to fall into the 20s and with the freezing temperatures, the weather is going to get bad for the first day of December.
“It will be messy,” said AccuWeather senior meteorologist Paul Walker. “The time frame will be late Saturday night, early Sunday morning.”
Today’s high will top out at 39 under a mix of sun and clouds.
Walker said that the low temperature tonight will be around 28 degrees.
“That will bring precipitation … snow, sleet, freezing rain,” Walker said. “It’s hard to predict the order of things because of the fluctuation in temperature.”
Walker said the precipitation will likely start around 8 or 9 p.m., but a shift in how the storm develops could push the storm starting as late as midnight or 1 a.m.
“Either way, we’ll have around an inch or so of snow on the ground,” Walker said.
But it’s the sleet and freezing rain that will make things messy first thing Sunday morning.
According to AccuWeather.com, Lock Haven could see more than 2 inches of snow (1 percent), between 0.2 and 2 inches (31 percent), between none and 0.2 inches (66 percent) and no snow at all (2 percent).
The high on Sunday tops out at 31, which means things will remain messy throughout the day. According to AccuWeather.com, the day will feature an “icy mix.” Snow, sleet and freezing rain are all on the docket.
The start of the work week will feature clouds and snow showers. Monday’s high tops out at 36.
For those going back to work and school on Monday, give yourself plenty of time.
“We’ll have a couple of snow showers around,” Walker said. “Again, it will be a messy day out there.”
