Coach Bruno reinstated at Bucktail

From staff reports

LOCK HAVEN — Coach Gene Bruno is back on the court at Bucktail High School, preparing the boys varsity basketball team for their game Saturday against Millville High School.

Bruno was suspended earlier this month by the Keystone Central School District administration and an investigation was begun, according to Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin.

Rumors circulated, especially on social media as the community offered support of the well-liked coach and questioned why he was suspended.

On Thursday afternoon, Martin reported that Bruno’s suspension had been lifted.

In a prepared release, Martin wrote:

“It is unfortunate that the season was disrupted for our players, but in the end I believe the served suspension has led to a fair outcome. Coach Bruno has been cooperative and understanding throughout this process. We sincerely appreciate coach Travis Fantaskey stepping up and carrying on the duties of the head coach in interim.”

Coach Bruno issued the following statement:

“In conflict we have no winners, only casualties. Daily routines are interrupted, students lose focus, and administrators get bogged down. The town has been torn with emotions. Will we heal from this conflict? The answer is YES. I often try to teach my players life lessons… what would I tell them about this? Sometimes we say things that unintentionally hurt others. Open your brain before you open your mouth… step back first. In this case, this advice would apply to me.”
