Richard Winner celebrates 94th birthday

Winner in the Marines.

LOCK HAVEN — World War II U.S. Marine Veteran Richard Winner is celebrating his 94th birthday today.

Born Jan. 23, 1926, Richard was a Marine Veteran 2nd Division 8th Regiment Baker Company, a Rifle Sharpshooter in the Pacific theater of Operations. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Shima, Japan.

Richard was issued an honorable service and a good conduct medal at the time of discharge in July 1946. It was so many years ago and still yet today he remarks that “he never thought he would come back alive.”

At the present time he is in good health for being 94 years of age. He lives in Lock Haven and has been a dedicated wonderful caregiver to his wife of 70 years, Velma. Richard and Velma celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this past summer Aug. 16, 2019 with family and friends.

Richard retired from Conrail Railroad as a crew dispatcher but kept busy with numerous jobs for many years after retirement. He is a member of Hillview Wesleyan Church for more than 63 years and served as a board member and trustee for 19 years.

Winner today.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting and working outdoors until not long ago. Richard accomplished two bucket list wishes– he attended a Billy Graham Crusade in Flushing Stadium, N.Y., and a drove across country taking in all the sites.

He credits his long healthy life to his relationship with God.

Richard and Velma raised three children Steven Winner ( Penny) of Etters, PA, Chris Adams (William) of Lock Haven and Carol Colucci (John) of Lock Haven. There are nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

A birthday wish may be sent to 208 W. Croak Hollow Road, Lock Haven, PA. 17745
