Beech Creek Road closing for repairs

BEECH CREEK — The Beech Creek Road will be closed to traffic from Packer Lane to Sand Springs Road on Feb. 25 for repairs, according to the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Forestry, Sproul State Forest.

A portion of Beech Creek Road in this section suffered a large landslide in the spring of 2019. Portions of the hillside below the road have slumped away taking a significant amount of the road berm and reducing the road to a narrow width. This landslide extends from the road all the way to the stream.

The road has been monitored closely and markers posted to direct traffic through the area and allowing one lane to remain open up to this point.

The road will be closed to public travel until repairs have been completed, which is anticipated to be fall 2020 barring complications with repair work and contract. The contract is slated for bid opening on April 2, 2020.
