Fire closes Snow Shoe grocery store
From Staff Reports
SNOW SHOE — An early morning fire caused damage to a grocery store and several other businesses in Snow Shoe Township, Centre County on Tuesday.
The fire closed Hall’s Market, Subway, True Value Hardware and Jersey Shore State Bank, which are located in the plaza.
Hall’s — sometimes referred to as “Hall’s Mall” — located along East Sycamore Road, sustained severe damage in the blaze. The owners of Hall’s posted this statement on their Facebook page: “Hall’s Market True Value and Subway will be closed until further notice. As we can’t begin to even wrap our arms around what has occurred this morning, we suffered a devastating loss. We are unsure how the fire started but we can’t thank enough all the fire fighters and ambulance that arrived to help put out the fire. We appreciate all the men and women that came to our rescue. Thank you.”
Fire departments from Howard, Milesburg, Morrisdale, Pine Glen and Pleasant Gap responded to the scene.
Owners believe the fire began at the service desk, which impacted the hardware portion of the store. Smoke and heat damage was extensive, owners told various media outlets.
At Tuesday’s Centre County Board of Commissioner’s meeting, commissioner Mark Higgins thanked the fire departments and county 911 for their efforts in fighting the blaze.
“I just want to thank your staff and all of our emergency responders during the fire last night at Hall’s Supermarket in Snow Shoe. (It’s) a very important institution up there, a pillar of the community. Hopefully, they’ll be back and open again in the near future,” Higgins said.
The investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
