Two cases of COVID-19 at The Oaks
PLEASANT GAP — Two cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed at a Senior Living Facility in Spring Township.
The Oaks at Pleasant Gap confirmed that a resident and a staff member at the senior living community have tested positive for COVID-19 .
Andrea Schurr, director of mission Advancement for Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, the nonprofit that operates the facility, said both are currently under quarantine off-site and under care of their physicians.
“Residents, families, staff and responsible parties as well as the proper authorities have been notified,” Schurr said in a release. “We continue to take every precaution to keep everyone safe and follow public health recommendations.”
The two cases were the first confirmed cases associated with a nursing home or personal care home in Centre County. On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed that there is another case at a nursing home or personal care home in Centre County. The name of that facility was not released.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s website, there are 8,673 COVID-19 cases — 7,698 residents and 975 employees — at 461 nursing or personal care facilities in 42 counties as of Wednesday morning.
Nearly 1,428 deaths — out of 2,195 total deaths statewide — have been reported in nursing or personal care homes, according to the Department of Health.
The department listed two nursing or personal care home resident cases of COVID-19 in Centre County but did not list an employee case on Wednesday.
Pennsylvania provides county-level data for such cases, but there is no state or federal law requiring nursing and personal care homes with COVID-19 cases to be specifically identified.
