Levine: Over half of COVID-19 patients have recovered

Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine announced on Friday evening over half of those diagnosed with COVID-19 since the outbreak first began have recovered.

“We have new data to report that 57 percent of these cases have recovered from the virus,” Levine said during a press conference at 4 p.m.

“This means that for 57 percent of patients who have tested positive for COVID-19, it has been 30 days past their first positive test or onset of symptoms,” she continued.

As of noon on Friday, 66,258 people have been diagnosed with the virus. Following Levine’s announcement, that means approximately 37,767 Pennsylvania residents have recovered.

DOH does not have plans to give a county-by-county recovery rate at this time, Levine said.

“We don’t plan to do that at this time. Today is the first day that we’ve reported recovery rates. In the future we’ll consider reporting that data,” she said.
