Hot and humid for the Fourth of July

LOCK HAVEN — Get ready for a heatwave — it’s gonna be a hot one this weekend.

“Temperatures will climb into the 90s today. It won’t cool off anytime soon,” AccuWeather meteorologist Jake Sojda said.

“It’s going to be hot and humid, which is what you’d expect for this time of year,” Sojda said, calling it “a typical Fourth of July weekend in central Pennsylvania.”

Sojda said today would be the worst of it as far as heat and humidity is concerned this weekend. Temperatures are expected to top out at 92 today under partly sunny skies.

“(Today) looks like the hottest day of the weekend for Lock Haven and the surrounding area,” Sojda said. “We’ll be in the low 90s in places like Lock Haven, Williamsport and State College.”

As for the Fourth of July, temperatures will drop, but only by a few degrees, Sojda said.

Look for a high on Saturday around 87. There will be a chance for a late day thunderstorm or two.

“It will be hot and humid again with temperatures in the upper 80s. We probably won’t hit 90. If there’s a storm, it will likely hit in the early evening, so keep an eye on that,” Sojda said.

However, that’s really the only chance of a storm, so you should be OK if you’re headed to a fireworks display in the area.

“By late evening, it looks pretty good,” Sojda said.

On Sunday, the heat returns with a high of 91. Monday will be even stickier with temperatures near 95.

Needless to say, exercise caution when out and about this weekend.

“It kind of goes without saying, but be sure to hydrate and don’t spend too much time in the direct sun,” Sojda said. (AccuWeather) RealFeel temperatures will be over 100, so be careful and stay hydrated. All those things we normally say.”

The heat will not dissipate until late next week. The high on Thursday, July 9, is expected to be just 83.
