Centre County small businesses eligible for grant

BELLEFONTE –The Centre County Board of Commissioners has released the details of its COVID-19 related grant program for small businesses in Centre County.

Small businesses with less than 100 employees and headquartered in Centre County may be eligible to receive a one-time grant to assist with costs and lost revenues resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. To be considered, a small business must submit an application. No matching dollars or application fee are required. The Centre County Relief Block Grant Application for Small Businesses is online with a submission deadline of 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.

In July, Centre County received Federal CARES ACT funding through a County Relief Block Grant intended for use by the County to assist small businesses, municipalities, and other organizations impacted by the COVID-19 public health crisis. The Board of Commissioners is dedicating up to $6,000,000 from the block grant for small businesses. “Our small businesses and local economy have been hit hard as a result of this pandemic and it is our hope that these grants will help to ease the financial hardship,” in a statement from the Board of Commissioners.

It is anticipated that grant checks will be awarded in two batches during October with first priority being given to businesses that have not received any state and/or federal grant assistance. Information about eligible businesses and criteria for selection are included on the County website.

Centre County government has partnered with the Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC) to provide administrative support for this process. The SBDC is available to answer questions about the grant process by contacting sbdc@psu.edu.
