PA daily cases of COVID-19 pass 7,000

HARRISBURG — Records continue to be shattered.

For the eighth time in 10 days, Pennsylvania set a record high for new positive cases of COVID-19. The 7,126 new cases reported on Thursday were 787 more than the previous high, bringing the state’s total to 288,978.

Centre County reported 82 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday to bring its total to 5,411, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health. Clinton County added 16 cases to its total, which now stands at 468.

As far as negative tests are concerned, Centre County had 374 new negative test results, increasing its total to 42,500. Clinton County had 13 new negative test results, increasing its total to 5,649. There were 20,541 new negative results statewide to bring the total to 2,629,527.

According to DOH data, there are 27 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Centre County. A total of 13 of those are in intensive care and two on ventilators. Mount Nittany Medical Center has 26 COVID-19 inpatients — ages 31 to 94 — according to the DOH website. Health department data includes hospitalizations at the medical center and rehab hospitals.

Across Pennsylvania, COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to rise. There are 2,952 COVID-19 patients hospitalized. A total of 659 are in intensive care and 318 are on ventilators.

Death numbers continue to climb as well. The DOH reported 116 new deaths attributed to COVID-19 statewide, increasing Pennsylvania’s death toll to 9,581. The health department lists 28 total COVID-19 deaths among Centre County residents since the start of the pandemic. The coroner’s office has confirmed 33 — ranging in age from 62 to 104 — with 22 having occurred in the last month and 11 in the last week. Clinton County has had nine residents die from the virus. The DOH reports deaths by county of residency while the coroner reports deaths that occur within the county.

Most COVID-19 hospitalizations and deaths have been patients 65 and older.

An estimated 66 percent of COVID-19 patients in the state have recovered, according to a DOH calculation.

Lycoming County added 70 cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. Its total stands at 1,533. In other nearby counties, the numbers look like this: Blair (2,872), Cambria (2,663), Clearfield (1,015), Union (1,084), Potter (123) and Cameron (17).
