Local virus numbers see slight uptick
HARRISBURG — Coronavirus numbers locally and statewide saw a bit of an increase Wednesday.
The state Department of Health reported that Clinton County added 14 cases of COVID-19. Its total now stands at 2,660.
Centre County added 73 cases of the deadly virus. Its total now stands at 12,394, the department reported.
In Lycoming County, 34 new cases of COVID-19 were added to the count, bringing its total to 8,917.
Throughout the state, there were just over 3,000 new cases of COVID-19 — 3,413 – bringing the statewide total to 902,650.
So far, 88 percent — or 794,332 residents — have recovered from the virus, the department reported.
In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there are 65,713 resident cases of COVID-19, and 12,729 cases among employees, for a total of 78,442 at 1,556 distinct facilities in all 67 counties.
One new death was reported in Clinton County, increasing its total to 55 since the outbreak first began. In Centre County, 206 residents between the ages of 55 and 104 have died. Lycoming County reported 238 deaths on Wednesday.
The DOH reported 34 new deaths statewide for a total of 23,319 deaths attributed to the virus.
Out of total deaths reported 12,118 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.
In terms of negatives, 8,265 Clinton County residents have tested negative for the virus since the outbreak began nearly a year ago. Centre County reported 59,778 negatives and Lycoming reported 26,744. Statewide, 3,791,021 residents have tested negative, the DOH reported.
There are 2,356 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 491 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.
As COVID-19 vaccination efforts continue, a total of 3,428 Clinton County residents have received the first dose of the vaccine, according to the DOH.
Of those, only 912 have received both doses, the department reported on Monday. The U.S. Census Bureau estimates the county’s population at just over 38,000.
In Centre County, 14,959 residents have received their first dose. So far 4,719 of those have received the second dose. Lycoming County reported 9,531 of its residents received the first dose as of Monday and 4,368 receiving both doses.
Statewide, 1,313,538 residents have received the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Of that count, 436,411 residents have also received the second dose, the DOH reported.
