Benches at Avis playground dedicated to scout who helped to build them

AVIS — It is springtime once again and with that comes the early cleaning up of local parks and recreational facilities.

On April 24, the Avis Area Recreation Association came together for their annual Earth Day cleanup of the Avis playground. The association is responsible for going around and helping cleanup the parks and recreation areas of Avis, said member Craig Seasholtz.

“Every year we do an annual cleanup and maintenance of the parks. Around the time of Earth Day every April, we clean up, tidy everything, and add more mulch to the playgrounds,” he said.

“It is nice to have people who want to help and volunteer their time to clean and do some annual maintenance work on the parks,” he added.

In 2019, Eagle Scout Kristopher Zinck conducted his senior project at the Avis playground.

He helped build five benches for the park where can come, visit, and watch their kids play on the playground equipment.

Zinck returned for this year’s cleanup.

And he was the guest of honor as the recreation association dedicated those benches to him in appreciation for his volunteer work and the donations he’s made to the playground.

He and his parents, Jen and Ben Zinck, placed honorary plaques on each of the five benches he helped build and that now bear his name.

Though he originally committed to helping improve the park with the benches, he continues to volunteer and help maintain the playground, Seasholtz said.
