Flags of Honor to fly in Triangle Park
LOCK HAVEN — Flags of Honor will return to Triangle Park for the Memorial Day weekend.
Last year there was no display in the park because of COVID-19 precautions. But this year, full-size U.S. flags on 10-foot poles will again fill the park with red, white and blue.
The dramatic display of flags will start the evening of Friday, May 28, and the flags will fly all weekend, until the evening of Tuesday, June 1.
Everyone interested may sponsor a flag in honor or in memory of a special someone. Veterans and soldiers can be saluted with a flag. So can a favorite teacher, friend, co-worker, relative, anyone who would appreciate the gesture.
Flags may be sponsored for $35 each. Funds raised will benefit nonprofit organizations.
Each flag pole will include a placard with the name of the person honored. In addition, the names of those honored and their sponsors will be listed in a booklet that will be available at the park.
Flags of Honor is a project of the Rotary Club of Downtown Lock Haven, with support from Nestlerode Contracting Co., Inc. But the sponsors are the people who really make it happen. They understand how powerful it can be to honor someone in their life by including their name in the display of flags.
Once the flags are unfolded and placed on their poles, the park becomes an awesome sight. People drive by or stroll through the flags and read the names of those honored. Anyone walking through the park is kindly asked to leave six feet or more of space between themselves and others as a COVID-19 protocol.
To sponsor a flag, send payment of $35 per flag with your name, address, phone number and email, as well as the name and wording for the person being honored, to Sue Foust, 11 Mikes Peak, Lock Haven PA 17745. If more information is needed, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 570-893-1223.
The deadline to sponsor a flag is May 14.
