Centre commissioners approve work on former Centre Crest building

BELLEFONTE — The Centre County commissioners held their shortest meeting in recent memory on Tuesday morning, wrapping things up in a mere 15 minutes.

There were just a handful of items on the agenda and little, if any, discussion of those items.

The most activity surrounded the vacant Centre Crest building. There were two items that were moved to next week’s consent agenda.

The first action item was a contract addendum with TK Elevator Corporation (formerly Thyssen Krupp Elevator) to provide elevator service for the building, which is located at 502 E. Howard St. in Bellefonte. The amount is $78,090.

The addition increases the monthly contract total from $1,183 to $2,553 and increases the total from $70,980 to $149,070. The contract is funded monthly as follows: Dept. 161 ($1,183) and Dept. 634 ($1,370) for the period of April 1, 2021 to Dec. 31, 2025.

The second action item regarding the property involves sealcoating the main parking lot. The estimate from Zimmerman Sealcoating came in at $9,500, which includes crack cleaning and preparation ($2,500) and sealcoat application ($7,000).

According to county deputy administrator John Franek, the lot will be repaired first before the sealcoating takes place.

“Facilities personnel will perform pothole patching and repair of damaged areas,” Franek explained. “Zimmerman Sealcoating will perform the necessary cleaning and prep of the lot as well as the sealcoating of the entire surface.”

Because the future of the facility is currently unknown, there will be no lines painted at the site.

“We’re not planning to re-stripe the lot at this time due to the potential construction activity that could occur at the site,” Franek said.

In other business Tuesday, the commissioners:

— Approved a letter of agreement with Interactive Document Solutions to provide implementation services to include installation, dynamics integration and training 10 user license fees and 10 user maintenance fees. The agreement total is $30,250, which will be funded as follows: State ($28,855) and county match ($1,395) for the period of June 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022. The letter of agreement was added to next week’s consent agenda.

— Approved the following re-appointments to the CYS advisory board: Hillary Harris, Judith Machon, Renea Nichols, Bill Speakman and Cheryl Speakman. Thea Leddy’s term has expired.

The commissioners will be meeting in person again at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 6. County employees will return to their offices on Monday, June 28. Meetings will still be televised live on C-NET, however.

The commissioners will not meet on Tuesday, Aug. 3. The commissioners will be attending the County Commissioners’ Association of Pennsylvania Conference.

The next meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 22. That meeting will be held via Zoom and will be televised live on C-NET.
