CATA announces changes to routes

STATE COLLEGE — The Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) has implemented service changes, which are to take effect on Monday, Oct. 25.

The temporary changes are expected to remain in effect until the end of the calendar year, possibly longer.

With a shortage in transportation resources, these changes are being made in order to avoid last minute service cancellations, and to provide reliable scheduling.

Some of these changes include all routes temporarily ceasing at 11 p.m., temporary suspension of Sunday CATABUS and less frequent routes on Saturday.

In addition, there will be a modification to the K (Cato Park) route, HM (Toftrees/Nittany Mall) route, P (Boalsburg) route, XP (Scenery Park) route and Campus Service (Loop and Links) route.

The XG Route (Pleasant Gap) will be temporarily suspended.

Game Day Shuttles are also temporarily suspended for the rest of the football season, effective immediately.

“Similar to transit agencies throughout the country, CATA continues to experience unprecedented staffing shortages, and this has resulted over the past several weeks in the cancellation of a number of daily trips having to be announced the evening before,” said Louwana Oliva, CATA’s Executive Director. “While we expect these temporary service changes to help eliminate last minute service cancellations after October 25, we will unfortunately continue to experience these issues, particularly Thursday through Sunday between now and when the changes take effect. CATA has chosen to implement these temporary service cutbacks in an effort to make the remaining service more reliable,” stated in a press release from CATA.

CATA will continue to communicate with the public any additional changes, as they continue to monitor the situation.

Those affected by these changes are encouraged to contact CATA’s customer service number at (814) 238-CATA(2282).
