LOGANTON — The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School Band Boosters would like to invite the public to a fun night of “dinner and and a show” to support a local family who are going through trying times.

Ten-year-old Faith Smith, of Loganton, was diagnosed on Aug. 1 with a rare brain cancer called “diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma,” and is receiving medical care at Geisinger Medical Center, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), and in Tennessee.

Faith, the daughter of Bill Smith and Ashleigh and Shawn Shadle, is full of spunk and wonder, and always has something clever or insightful to say.

She is on the local AYSO soccer team and a percussionist in the school band.

She loves her two big brothers, Billy and Noah, and can’t get enough furry snuggles with her four cats Han, Luke, Chewbacca and Patches; or couch cuddles with her three dogs Obi-Wan, Onyx, or her new “Make-a-Wish” puppy Jace.

But most of all, Faith is best defined by her birth-given name of hope.

Her Mom, Ashleigh, said that when Faith heard about her diagnosis she simply said, “Jesus is with me, I’ll be fine.”

To help with the financial impact of Faith’s journey, the SVRCS Band Boosters is hosting a southern themed dinner and an evening of open mic at the Sugar Valley Fire Company banquet hall this Friday, Oct. 29 beginning at 6 p.m.

Each dinner includes slow roasted pulled pork, corn bread, pinto beans, hashbrown casserole, 4-H greenbeans with bacon, pepper slaw, and famous Sugar Valley desserts, as well as coffee and sweet tea.

The cost of each dinner is as follows: $15 adults; $10 children 6-12; and $5 for children 5 years of age and under.

Anyone who wishes to perform a song, play an instrument, read a poem or show off any other talent, may take a turn at the microphone.

There will be feature performances by the SVRCS Band, as well as Stacy Garbrick and Jonathon Bojan from the State College based band The TrainSpotters.

For more information, contact Sonya at sdowning@svrcs.org, or call Amber at 570-295-0857.

Takeout dinners will be available.

The Sugar Valley Fire Company banquet hall is located at 24 W. Anthony St., Loganton.
