Local detective scores show on NBC Peacock
Local Detective Kenneth Mains, known for solving law-enforcement-baffling cold cases, announced he will co-produce and star in a new true crime series, debuting on NBC Peacock in 2025.
Working with Los Angeles-based production company, Fireside Pictures, and alongside legendary producer Dick Wolf, known for producing iconic series like “Law & Order,” “Chicago Fire,” “FBI” and “Cold Justice,” Mains’ show will feature his investigation into several, yet-unsolved murders by a prolific serial killer.
Mains says the show centers around a series of tips he received from an informant on death row who had been housed with multiple notorious serial killers.
“I was cautious, having dealt with informants throughout my 15 years as a police officer and detective,” he said.
However, the information, Mains says, proved instrumental in solving multiple cold cases, and the show picks up as he continues to follow these leads. Though he was not at liberty to share the name of the informant or the serial killer under investigation, Mains did reveal that the killer at the center of the show confessed to more than 25 murders, despite only being convicted of four.
“All will be revealed during the show,” he assured.
A best-selling true-crime author and star of the popular YouTube show “Unsolved No More,” Mains brings his expertise from working with the Williamsport Bureau of Police, the FBI and the Lycoming County District Attorney’s Office to tackle complex, unsolved criminal cases for audiences.
As founder of the American Investigative Society of Cold Cases (AISOCC), Mains has led efforts to reopen and solve numerous cold cases over his career, collaborating closely with law enforcement and families to find justice.
Filming for the show will kick off this January in Los Angeles. Mains is expected to visit Las Vegas, San Francisco and the greater Bay Area for the investigation.
In 2017, Mains appeared on “Hunt for the Zodiac Killer,” a History Channel docu-series that followed LAPD homicide detective Sal LaBarbera and his team of experts as they worked to solve the mystery surrounding one of America’s most notorious serial killers.
“I know that the chance to star in a second major television series is rare for anyone — let alone for a small-town country boy from Penns Valley like me. So, it is a true honor, and I’m humbled,” Mains said in a post announcing the series.
Though starring on TV was never his goal, Mains says it has become his “media and canvas to paint the art of deduction” and helps him solve these cases.
“I just wanted to investigate unsolved homicides and missing persons. That’s it, period, and end of story… I always tell people…I’m not an author even though I have written books. I’m not a YouTuber even though I have a channel. I’m not an actor even though I have been on numerous television shows. I’m a detective!” Mains said.
Feeling both proud and humbled to be a part of this project, he said, “Let it be a lesson to everyone out there that hard work and being passionate about your calling in life does pay off.”
