ROTE — The Lamar Township Board of Supervisors held their regular meeting on Feb. 3, addressing grant updates, radar signs and other items.

During the secretary’s report, Tracy Roberts discussed upcoming grants that have been awarded to the township, including:

— A DCED-Multimodal Grant was awarded for the interchange lighting improvements at the 477/220 interchange. The township was awarded $166,714 towards the project with a 70/30 match.

“Once [DCED] gets in touch with us, there is no need for a motion to accept the grant and the project will carry on,” said Roberts.

— Clinton County Community Foundation Grant was awarded for new park restrooms, totaling $13,000 for the township.

Since their last meeting, Secretary Roberts has continued research into radar signs for the township that can be placed in higher problem areas.

Each sign will cost $3,200 and will provide police with more detailed reports of speeding, car counts, etc.

Mill Hall Police Chief Brandon Coleman approved of the specific radar signs that have been chosen, saying, “We want the information to be able to determine the time and dates so that we can be there quicker instead of shooting in the dark.”

Ahead of purchasing the radar signs, Roberts has asked the supervisors to approve letters being sent out to local businesses to ask for donations to assist with the cost.

Following Coleman’s police report, supervisor Dan Chappell asked to continue discussing follow-up with local EMS volunteers after an incident that occurred over the weekend in which EMS personnel reportedly entered the wrong residence during an emergency call.

According to Coleman, the incident happened during a time-sensitive medical emergency when EMS was dispatched to a residence in Lamar Township but initially arrived at the incorrect address.

The family affected by the incident raised concerns about the first responder’s response following the realization it was the wrong house, prompting supervisor Chappell to express frustration with the overall situation on behalf of the Lamar Township resident.

Coleman suggested a meeting between the fire company volunteers and the family for the purpose of reviewing what happened and how similar situations can be prevented.

“I think it’s important that you guys hear what your resident has to say and what you can do to help them,” said Coleman.

The meeting date has not been set but township supervisors said they will be reaching out to those involved in the coming days.

In other news:

— The supervisors accepted two dog waste stations for installation in the park as a donation from a township resident.

— The supervisors voted against plowing at sub-stations for the East Nittany Valley Joint Municipal Authority.

— The supervisors approved the increase of all roadmaster wages as required by the township code.

Starting at $3.69/week.
