Kettle Creek State Park

– On Friday, May 31, at 3:30 p.m., there will be a program on “CCC Camp S-122 (Two Mile Run)” at Kettle Creek State Park. Some of the topics will include life during the Great Depression, the life of a CCC boy, and some of the other camps of the area. Meet at the Nature Center.

– On Friday, May 31, at 8 p.m. at Kettle Creek State Park, leave your fears and prejudice of rattlesnakes at the door as we learn more about the timber rattlesnakes’ environmental importance in the program “Shadows of a Misunderstanding.” There will be a movie. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at the Nature Center at the Lower Campground.

– On Saturday, June 1, at 3 p.m., guest speaker Dave Cardellino, the owner of Kettle Creek Adventurers, will have a “Fly Fishing Demonstration” geared toward children at Ole Bull State Park. Participants will get to learn about some different fly fishing techniques. This is geared for children ages 12 and under. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at Pavilion 4 (Stone Pavilion).

– On Sunday, June 2, at 9 a.m., join the naturalist for a “Sunday Morning Bird Walk” around the Lower Campground to see some different birds that call Kettle Creek State Park home. Topics will also include birding etiquette, proper use of binoculars, and other helpful items to bring on a birding hike. All children must be accompanied by an adult. In the event of inclement weather, there will be an alternative program. Meet at the Nature Center.

Ole Bull State Park

– On Saturday, June 1, at 9 a.m., there will be a “Children’s Fishing Derby” at Ole Bull State Park. Come and enjoy a great day of fishing. Registration will be at 9 a.m. at the stone pavilion, and fishing will start at 10 a.m. until noon. Prizes will be awarded at 12:15 p.m. at the amphitheater. This fishing derby is for children 12 and under. Meet at Pavilion 4 (Stone Pavilion).

– On Saturday, June 1, at 2 p.m., there will be a program focusing on “Fly-Tying” for children at Ole Bull State Park. Guest speaker George Kutskel, President of the Allegheny Mountain Trout Unlimited Organization, will be presenting some techniques in mimicking and presenting the perfect fly to the trout. Afterward, there will be a fly-fishing demonstration, weather permitting. This program is targeted to families with children, but all are welcome to attend. Meet at Pavilion 4 (Stone Pavilion).
