September 2019 Garden of the Month announced

The winner of Dogwood Circle Garden Club’s Garden of the Month award is James McClean, 439 S. Fairview St., Lock Haven. A great example of a “transition” garden, perennials and annuals beyond their optimum have been cleared and replaced with potted plants and seasonal decor to make a pleasing transition from summer to fall. Annuals such as black-eyed susan vine, chrysthemums of all colors, combined with various varieties of gourds and pumpkins add color, texture and interest throughout the gardens. James creates accessories of wood, pottery, and antique bits to add interest and whimsy. This year he created hanging gourd arrangements for his front porch. The front steps and porch are lined with pots full of flowers and grasses. A grapevine twines across the front of the porch, and cornstalks soften the hard edges of the porch columns. All are lit at night for a dazzling display. More photos may be seen on the Club’s website www.lhgardenclub.com. Nominations for the October award may be made by calling JoAnn, 570-748-6673, or Zonda, 570-660-5563, as soon as possible.
