Dogwood Circle names October Garden of the Month

Dogwood Circle Garden Club has chosen Diane and Dave James, 517 Wright St., Flemington as winner of the October Garden of the Month. Gardening their corner lot for the past 50 years the James have surrounded their landscape with a riot of color, especially chrysanthemums in fall. Every spring as new growth appears Diane pinches them back, dips the cuttings in rooting hormone and sticks them in the ground. They grow into new plants, and not always in the same color. Besides the mums, there are varieties of bright yellow coreopsis, marigolds, petunias, begonias, and a bright rock garden on the side. Diane looks forward to the blooming of a feathery red French peony, a gift from her brother and Dave finds great satisfaction in rescuing dying plants at the box stores and nursing them back to health. More photos of the James’ flowers may be viewed on Dogwood Circle’s website at www.lhgardenclub.com. This is the last Garden of the Month award for 2019. The program will begin in April 2020 as spring flowers brighten landscapes.
