Driver falls asleep at wheel
HOWARD — A one vehicle accident occurred along Jacksonville Road, Marion Township, Centre County, on Oct. 9 at 10:57 a.m. after the driver fell asleep at the wheel, state police at Rockview said.
A 2010 Chevrolet Cobolt, driven by Heather K. Roy, 36, of Lock Haven, was traveling east on the roadway when she fell asleep at the wheel causing the vehicle to drift into the opposite lane of travel, police said.
The vehicle traveled across the roadway, striking a utility pole and shearing it in half before coming to final rest in a cornfield, police said.
Roy sustained minor injuries and was transported to UPMC Lock Haven by Bellefonte EMS. Her passenger, Tara L. Shutt, 27, of Centre Hall, was not injured, police said.
Roy was issued a citation for driving on roadways laned for traffic, police said.
