Lycoming County residents victim of scam
WILLIAMSPORT — Three Lycoming County residents were the victims of scams recently.
According to state police at Montoursville, the scams took place beginning in August. The last one occurred in November.
The first took place from Aug. 15 through Aug. 29, 2019. The victim was a 55-year-old female from Jersey Shore. During the aforementioned two week period, the woman had Flight Rewards Mileage removed from her account and given to two unidentified persons.
The second incident took place sometime between Oct. 23 through Nov. 25, 2019 on Homewood Avenue in Loyalsock Township. According to police, a 67-year-old Williamsport man was the victim of a check scam. The amount was $1,150.
The third scam took place sometime between Nov. 12 and Nov. 19 along Mosquito Valley Road in Armstrong Township. A 60-year-old man and 58-year-old woman were scammed out of $2,000 in gift cards.
The investigation in all three cases is ongoing.
Bellefonte man arrested
BELLEFONTE — State Police at Rockview arrested a Bellefonte man during a domestic dispute that took place at 9:11 a.m. on Jan. 3.
According to police, Damian Young, 28, of Bellefonte, was arrested for terroristic threats, unlawful restraint and numerous other charges for the incident, which invovled a 28-year-old Bellefonte woman. The incident took place along West Firehall Road in Gregg Township, Centre County.
The investigation continues.
BELLEFONTE — State Police at Rockview suspected a Bellefonte man of driving under the influence of alcohol following a one-vehicle crash that took place at 6:37 p.m. on Jan. 11 along Purdue Mountain Road in Benner Township, Centre County.
According to police, Brian Wendler, 51, of Bellefonte, crashed into a tree around the 2100 block of Purdue Mountain Road. Upon arrival, police realized that Wendler was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. He was transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for a blood draw.
Charges are pending in the case.
BELLEFONTE — State Police at Rockview investigated a two-vehicle crash that took place at 3:47 p.m. on Jan. 8 along North Eagle Valley Road in Boggs Township, Centre County.
According to police, the accident involved Gayle Bitner, 71, of Howard and 52-year-old Heidi Johnson of Juliam. Bitner was driving a 2007 Toyota Rav 4, while Johnson was driving a 2106 Mazda 3. Both drivers sustained serious injuries in the two-vehicle crash. Bitner was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. Johnson had to be transported via LifeFlight to UPMC Altoona.
Bitner was cited for her role in the crash.
