Millheim Engine and Hardware Shop celebrating its 25th anniversary
MILLHEIM — Millheim Small Engine and Hardware is one of those places where people know that when they stop there, the store will probably have what they are looking for, and if they don’t, they can find it.
Located along Route 45, just a few miles east of Millheim, Millheim Small Engine started back in 1994 and has been a dependable presence in the Penns Valley community ever since.
As the name implies, the engine shop, does in fact carry lots of products with small engines, like lawn mowers, chain saws, generators and log splitters, but upon walking in the entrance of the store, visitors will notice stockpiles of items go way beyond things that run on gas and kerosene.
Shelves full of tools, work gloves, and tools are everywhere, but then there are these little surprises that make a pleasant surprise to those who don’t live close to large convenience stores, and sometimes need things that usually can’t be found in nearby small towns that are often a 30 minute drive from the nearest city.
Displays of phone chargers with multiple adapter plugs fill a backdrop, and a box of flares sit near the emergency supply section. The assortment of things at the engine shop is so vast and spans from welding supplies, to brass wind chimes, to camping supplies, to pet care items, to vacuum cleaner bags.
The back room is full of seasonal items, and right now houses stacks of both electric and propane space heaters, as well other recently hard to find winter supplies, like rock salt. A few extra large all terrain steel and wood wagons have recently been placed at the end of one of the rows, promising that warmer weather is on the way.
They will start to clear this room out next month and fill it up with gardening supplies. Soon after that they will begin to fill up the front lawn area with lots of things like used lawn care equipment and even dirt bikes.
The Millheim Small Engine and Hardware doesn’t just deal in all of kinds of things that you need to get stuff done. They service everything they sell, and there is a fully equipped repair garage right on the property.
They carry several brands of used parts for most small engine needs that can’t be found anywhere else, and are a distributor of Husquvarna and STIHL equipment.
The Millheim Engine and Hardware Shop will celebrate its 25th anniversary this month and will do so with a week-long customer appreciation open house, taking 10% off ALL in stock items from March 25th through March 30th. They always mark the anniversary of the store each year with tasty tradition, and this year will be no different. They give away whoopie pies, and coffee mugs to everyone who comes to see them that week. You wouldn’t believe how many come to get these whoopies and how far they travel. Last year they had over 1,800 whoopie pies, and they all went!
Charles Boyer, of Coburn, is a regular customer. It’s the premiere repair and sales shop for all small engines. Mowers, trimmers, chain saws. I’ve bought them all there and Henry keeps them tuned up, Boyer said.
He has 25 years in business, and over time has added copious amounts of hardware. Shovels, rakes, nuts, bolts and screws, hand tools, power tools, flashlights … and tasty cakes, homemade chips. Come and check out the customer appreciation open house, you won’t be disappointed!
