STATE COLLEGE — The 71st Annual Mount Nittany Medical Center Charity Ball, themed A Majestic Evening Through the Greek Isles, raised $180,000 for women and children’s services at the medical center.

One of Mount Nittany Health Foundation’s premier fundraisers, 550 attendees gathered at The Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center for the event, co-chaired by Gina Woskob and Tracie Doucette, on Saturday, Feb. 23. Guests enjoyed chef prepared, Greek themed cuisine stations while listening to the sounds of EBE Events & Entertainment’s Paris.

“A special thank you to the Charity Ball committee and members of our community who came together in an amazing show of support for our vital community resource for the women, children and families in our area with this premier community event,” says Kathleen Rhine, president and CEO, Mount Nittany Health. “This show of generosity at this event is another of the wonderful ways that our community continues to support Mount Nittany Health and healthcare locally.”

Corporate sponsors, including Santorini-level sponsors, Alexander – A Butz Family Company, Mount Nittany Physician Group, Centre Emergency Medical Associates and Geisinger; individual donations; ticket sales; online auction; and the Mercedes-Benz European Driving Adventure Raffle – courtesy of Mercedes-Benz of State College – helped to make the evening a success.

Nearly $19,000 was raised by the raffle. The online auction raised more than $36,000, and gave bidders the opportunity to bid on more than 100 items ranging from local gift cards to sports packages, spa retreats, fine jewelry and more.

“Each year, we are astounded by the generosity of this community,” shares Woskob. “The Charity Ball committee continues to be humbled by the kindness shown by so many, and the willingness to help others.”

The largest unit of its kind in the region, the Medical Center’s women and children’s department — with dedicated medical and nursing teams –serves women’s healthcare, pediatric patients and welcomes more than 1,300 newborns every year. Given the importance of this vital community resource for women, children and families, Mount Nittany Health is planning a significant renovation in 2020.

Every detail of the project for the labor and delivery area will be designed with families in mind, and will include new labor and delivery rooms, post-partum rooms, nursery, family support space, more efficient clinical work areas and a new operating room – with personalized features, advanced technology, and a focus on safety that are the hallmarks of care at Mount Nittany Health.

New spaces will also be created for women’s healthcare to ensure comfort, care and privacy during healing, as well as, a new space for pediatric patients with their special needs in mind, including more privacy and family support places for the growing number of women and families that trust Mount Nittany Health with their care.

Next year’s Charity Ball is scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2020.
