Laurie Welch to speak on walking and health

LOCK HAVEN — Walk by Faith is a faith-based program through Penn State Extension service designed to encourage healthy eating and simple exercise, such as walking, with the goal of helping to maintain a healthy weight and reduce the risk of developing cancer.

It continues to be offered on a weekly basis by Covenant United Methodist Church, 44 W. Main St., and the public is invited to the next educational session, slated for this coming Wednesday.

Walk by Faith participants walk as a group every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. on five different walking paths on a rotating basis, and everyone is encouraged to join in. The program also includes several educational sessions which are conducted by Laurie Welch of the Penn State Extension office.

The next educational session will be held this coming Wednesday at 7 p.m., after the group walk, in the church lounge. Welch will discuss “Physical Activity and Walking.” She will talk about how much exercise is needed, overcoming barriers to activity, getting started and staying on track, and healthy exercise.

Participants do not have to be members of Covenant Church in order to be part of the Walk by Faith program. Those interested in joining the walking group or attending the free educational session may call Fran Decker at 570-748-4302 for additional information.
