Finding Faith: ‘Too blessed to be stressed’
By CAPTAIN HOLLY JOHNSON
I saw a commercial on TV years ago that was endorsing healthy weight loss and it showed the common mishaps of dieting as a woman walked around with a chain around her ankle and a scale attached at the end of that chain.
The scale represented a heavy burden that can weigh a person down as they feel like they are carrying their burden with them everywhere they go. Burdens are everywhere and if we aren’t careful we can end up feeling like that lady who literally carried her burden with her everywhere she went. Maybe you can relate to that feeling of carrying heavy burdens around with you?
We are coming up on Easter soon can you believe it already?! It feels like we were just celebrating the New Year not long ago and now we can’t even walk into the store without being reminded that Easter is right around the corner!
Easter is a beautiful time to celebrate our risen Savior Jesus Christ! It’s a time of celebration and opportunity to get together with our loved ones, but again, if we aren’t careful and mindful, we can also feel burdened during this season when it’s simply meant to be about celebrating Jesus.
There’s Easter egg hunts, Easter egg dyeing, stuffing Easter egg baskets, decorating for Easter, Good Friday Services, Sunrise Services, Easter breakfasts, Easter Mass and Worship services and I am sure I am forgetting something! Did you just get overwhelmed by reading all these things listed? Did you just realize that you forgot to do or pencil in one of these things? I am right there with you! Just breathe!
God’s word in Hebrews 12:1 tells us “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
Did you catch that? We are to throw off EVERY weight that hinders us.
Stress and burdens hinder us, and we can’t allow it to rob us of our joy, especially around this beautiful time where we remember the beautiful sacrifice that Jesus made for us and paid for us!
There’s a quote I often see on social media that says, “Too blessed to be stressed!” I love that saying! This time of year can be stressful, but it can also be one of the biggest blessings if we allow it and claim even now, “I am too blessed to be stressed.”
Don’t allow stress to weigh you down. Toss away those hindrances and even negativity that the Devil may throw at you and choose to be blessed today!
