Finding Faith: Today is the day!

By REV. HOLLY JOHNSON

As I write this article today, it’s currently Christmas Eve. Although my article won’t be published until after Christmas, it dawned on me that New Years Eve would be here before we knew it!

Soon, the stores will be flooded with the latest diet fads and trends in hopes to get folks to purchase their items for their New Year’s resolutions that they may or may not keep throughout the entire year of 2020.

When my husband and I were stationed as the Corps Officers/Pastors for The Salvation Army in Lewiston, Maine, we knew a lady who every year around the end of November-beginning of December would say, “I just can’t wait for this awful year to be over! I can’t wait to make changes in my life after the first of the year.”

Every year she would share this and every year my husband and I would lovingly remind and encourage her of something that I will also share and hopefully encourage all of you readers out there today with. Perhaps most of you know what I am about to say, but maybe you struggle to put it into action. Today is the day to make changes! Maybe those changes are Spiritual – maybe you want to change or develop a new relationship with Jesus! How amazing! Maybe you want to make changes to help nourish the body and mind God blessed you with by being mindful about what goes into them. Whatever your resolutions or healthy changes might look like, you can start them today… here and now… TODAY!

Psalm 118:24 from God’s Holy and precious word tells us this: “This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.” There is also a contemporary worship song that I absolutely enjoy singing and listening to by Lincoln Brewster titled “Today is the Day.” One part says “I’m putting my fears aside. I’m leaving my doubts behind. I’m giving my hopes and dreams to you Jesus. I’m reaching my hands to Yours; believing there’s so much more – knowing that all you have in store for me is good.”

Today is the day to make changes! Today is the day to start a resolution! Today is the day to put off all fears, doubts and especially PROCRASTINATION! Psalm 118:24 says “This is the day the Lord has made! Let’s choose today; let’s start today!
