Finding Faith: A light bulb encounter

In Acts 16:13-14, “When the Sabbath day came, we (Paul and his team) went outside the gates of the city to the nearby river, for there appeared to be a house of prayer and worship there. Sitting on the riverbank we struck up a conversation with some of the women who had gathered there. One of them was Lydia, a businesswoman from the city of Thyatira who was a dealer of exquisite purple cloth and a Jewish convert. While Paul shared the good news with her, God opened her heart to receive Paul’s message.”

Lydia was part of a prayer group, but she was unfamiliar with the Gospel. She had religion, but not a personal relationship with God. She was not saved. She was hungry for more God, but needed a divine encounter with Him so that she could enter the Kingdom of God.

When Lydia heard the Gospel message from Paul and his team, she experienced a light bulb moment. She realized she was a lost sinner and needed God in her heart. She understood that Jesus Christ was the Savior of the world and that she could receive Him as her personal Savior. They spoke to her about forgiveness of her sins, and that could be born again and have eternal life.

God moved in Lydia’s heart and she felt His presence. She recognized that God was speaking to her heart through Paul and his team. God was calling her to become one of His children. God’s Spirit was working in her heart and drawing her closer to Him. She began to feel the love of God in her heart and see that He had good plans and purposes for her life.

Today many of us are like Lydia, here and across America and all over the World. People are searching for hope and meaning. They want the void in their lives filled. God can fill that void with love and a peace that passes all understanding.

God is calling all of us to be saved. Salvation is a free gift. God desires to reveal Himself to us. He wants to open and fill our hearts by His Spirit. Jesus paid the ultimate price for us to be saved. He paid a way for our sins to be forgiven. His salvation is free for all. He made a way for us to have eternal life. He is waiting for us to call upon Him and ask Him into our hearts. We can receive Him as our Savior just like Lydia did over 2,000 years ago.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” And Mark 1:15 says, “…and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the Gospel.”

God loves you! He is waiting for you to invite Him into your heart. God has a wonderful plan and a purpose for your life. Encounter a light bulb moment with God and open up your heart to Him today.
