Finding Faith: Good news! Romans 10:12-15

REV. LAURA KING

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13 For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 14 But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? 15 And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” (NRSV)

Good News! We certainly could use some of that. With the resurgence of the virus, leadership discussing a new aid package, jobs lost or at risk, and a statewide mask order, we have certainly been struggling lately. But we have good news to tell.

When Jesus comes to judge the earth, we are promised that everyone… everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

So maybe you do not usually read these articles on Finding Faith but I hope you do. I hope that you will hear the Apostle Paul’s words and realize that they were written for you.

In these times of uncertainty what is certain is God’s love for you, yes, you. The good news is that God sent his Son, Jesus to teach us how to live today and how to be saved forever. He took our sins on himself and offered himself as a perfect sacrifice so that you, yes you, might be saved.

God raised him from the dead and he has ascended into heaven to sit at God’s right hand. And he has given us the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us with everything. The Holy Spirit prays on our behalf when we do not have the words. The Holy Spirit helps us understand Jesus’ teachings. The Holy Spirit gives us gifts to be helpful in our work for the Lord.

You do not have to be perfect. You do not have to clean up your life first. You do not have to be righteous and all holier than everybody else. What you do have to do is let Christ into your heart and proclaim him with your lips as Lord. Just believe and let the Spirit work in you.

Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in Jesus Christ and be saved. This is really good news!
