Finding Faith: Get ready to celebrate a return to life
This Sunday is Laetare Sunday. We’re halfway through the penitential season of Lent. Yesterday I saw a crocus in bloom. We’re nearing the end of winter.
Today I received my second vaccination shot. We’re anticipating the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now is a season of expectation, expectation of a return to life. Now is the time for us to begin preparing for the celebration of this three-fold rebirth. It has been a long time coming.
Yes, we still have passiontide ahead of us. Winter can still give us some rough weather. And the pandemic regulations haven’t eased.
But our Faith proclaims the fact that Jesus did rise from the dead after his sufferings and that we too will rise from the dead after our sufferings. We are not confined to the grave.
As dismal as things may appear and they appeared quite dismal the day Jesus died, we are not meant for darkness. Those who trust in Christ and walk with Christ will rise with Christ.
Finding Faith is written by area pastors. This week’s column comes from Rev. Fr. Joseph Orr of Holy Spirit Catholic Parish, Lock Haven.
