‘Tornado Watch’ in effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Central Pennsylvania, effective until midnight tonight.

A line of severe thunderstorms is expected to cross Central Pennsylvania, roughly between 5 and 10 p.m. today, Oct. 31. Some areas will see damaging wind gusts of 60 to 80 mph along this line of storms, forecasters warn.

“Given how strong the winds are in the lower levels of the atmosphere, isolated tornadoes are also a possibility,” they said.

Here is some initial timing as to when severe weather is expected:

6 to 7 p.m., Wellsboro, Lock Haven, State College, and Altoona.

7 to 8 p.m., Williamsport, Sunbury, Lewistown, and Carlisle.

NWS said residents and motorists should stay alert this evening to changing weather conditions.
