Local jobless rate shows slight improvement

LOCK HAVEN – Clinton County’s unemployment situation continued to show slight improvement during the pandemic, according to information released Thursday by the state Bureau of Labor & Industry.

For the week ending July 18, the initial unemployment claims n the county were 86, down from 112 the week before, according to the Bureau. Of the 86, 57% were female, 28% were in the manufacturing field, and 22% were in the age group of 55 to 64.

The state reported a continued unemployment insurance claim from 1,558 county residents for the week ending July 18, down from the 1,826 reported the week before. Of the 1,558, 50.6% were female, 17.5% were in the food and accommodations field, and 22% were ages 25 to 34. Although the continued claim number was down, it is still almost 1,000 above the pre-covid continued claim number of 577, which was recorded the week ending Feb. 29.

The state will release June monthly unemployment numbers for the 67 counties on July 28. C

linton County’s May unemployment number was 11.7%.
