William E. Garbrick, Sr.

William E. “Bill” Garbrick, Sr., 80, of Salona, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at his home.

Born March 17, 1939, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Earl R. and N. Isabel Reish Garbrick.

Bill graduated from Lock Haven High School in 1957 and then served in the United States Army National Guard for 15 years.

In 1960 he married the former Judy Herr with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage.

Bill owned and operated Garbrick Trucking.

He was a very active lifelong member of Salona United Church of Christ where he served as a consistory member.

Bill not only served, but was an influential part of his community.

He was a founder of the Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company, playing an integral part in building the firehouse and purchasing their first piece of fire equipment. Bill was a member of the fire company for 58 years, having served as Fire Chief for 25 of those years. He also served as an EMT.

Bill was also served as a Lamar Township Supervisor for 35 years. While he played a role in various infrastructure, historical preservation and recreational projects, he was also devoted to the development of Long Run Park. Because of his leadership of these projects and may more, he received the President’s Leadership Award from the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors in 2017.

Bill was a member of the Beech Creek American Legion, the Moose and the Elks.

He enjoyed hunting, camping, riding his motorcycle and taking his dog for Jeep rides.

Most cherished was the time he spent with family, especially being involved with his grandchildren’s various activities and sporting events.

In addition to his wife, Judy Garbrick, of Salona, he is survived by two children, Gayle M. (Carl) Welshans and William E. (Tina) Garbrick, Jr., both of Mill Hall; 5 grandchildren, Colby (Erin) Welshans, Luke Welshans, and Connor, Johnna and Alex Garbrick; his great granddaughter, Collins Welshans; and his beloved furry friend, Ranger.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, Pa. 17745.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Salona United Church of Christ, 111 Long Run Rd., Salona. Inurnment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Mill Hall.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either the Salona United Church of Christ or Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Company through the funeral home.
