June M. McNerney
June Marie (Nierle) McNerney, 87, of Austin, Texas, passed peacefully on June 28, 2019 at Sagebrook Health and Rehabilitation Center, Cedar Park, Texas, where she had a brief stay following hospitalization.
Formally of Williamsport, June had also resided in New Port Richey, Fla., after retiring as a registered nurse.
She was born April 2, 1932, in Williamsport, Pa., to Eileen and Paul Tomlinson.
Surviving are her four children, Cheryl A. (Nierle) Neff, of Austin, Texas, Karen L. Nierle) Hall-Thomas, of Cochranville, Pa., Richard H. Nierle, Jr., of New Port Richey, Fla., and Denise E. (Nierle) Esin; five grandchildren, Shane M. Miller and Jamie R. (Rocky) Miller, both of Williamsport, Kyle D. Hall, of Newark, Del., Lara S. (Esin) Poole, of San Antonio, Texas, and Shawn E. Esin, of Niceville, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
June graduated from Williamsport High School and Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing. She met her husband, Dr. Richard H. Nierle, at Williamsport Hospital where they both were employed. Her career in nursing spanned many decades, from hospital nursing, visiting and community nursing, and nursing home care at Susque View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Sycamore Manor. June was a member of the Harrisburg Hospital Alumni Association. She loved nursing and was very proud of her profession.
Through the years, June enjoyed traveling on Caribbean cruises, shopping, having a glass of wine and being with her cat, Missy. She loved to talk about her younger days when she played the violin and was a majorette in high school. June enjoyed social activities, listening to audiobooks, swimming at her water aerobics class and spending time with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence (Mike) McNerney; her parents; and siblings, Bertha and John.
A Christian Mass to celebrate June’s life will be held on Oct. 4, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 711 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels of Central Texas.
